Galvanic corrosion is common in salt- and fresh-water marine environments. To prevent it, sacrificial zinc anodes may be attached to vessel hulls, offshore platforms, fishing traps, and other underwater structures. Zinc anodes can also protect buried structures in soils of resistivity less than 1000 Ω-cm. Zinc anodes may be used as electrical grounds and references under tanks and inside vessels.
